Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lt Gen Faiz Hamid – one of Pakistan’s top military officers – has applied for early retirement from the army, JEE News reported on Monday, citing sources.
Lt Gen Hamid – who also served as the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief – is among six senior military officers nominated by the General Headquarters (GHQ) for the post of Army Chief. were included, for which the appointments were finalized last week.
Sources told JEE News that Corps Commander Bahawalpur has sent a request for his early retirement to GHQ in Rawalpindi.
This development comes days after the federal government appointed General Asim Munir as the next Chief of Army Staff and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
Pakistan Army Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt Gen Azhar Abbas, according to his brother, has also requested early retirement. He was also counted among the highest officers.
CGS Lt Gen Abbas has decided to bid farewell to early retirement, his brother confirmed to JEE News on Friday.
