KARACHI: A man in his forties allegedly killed his wife and three daughters with a sharp instrument before unsuccessfully trying to stab himself in Karachi’s Shamsi Society. Police said on Tuesday.
According to Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police Sajid Saduzai, the suspect is still seriously injured in a hospital. He added that the victims were tenants of the house where the crime was committed.
Police confirmed they found the bloodied bodies of an elderly woman, 38, and three girls, 16, 12 and 10, in the home.
He said that the victims were killed with a sharp instrument. The survivor, identified as Fawad, is the older woman’s husband and the father of the murdered girls.
According to the police, Fawad is the main suspect in the murder.
“The accused, who is a sales manager in a private spice company by profession, attempted suicide after killing his wife and daughters,” the police official said.
SSP Korangi said that the house was locked from inside after the murder, indicating that the accused was behind the murder.
According to SSP Korangi, the police have recovered the knife from the crime scene. A crime scene unit has arrived at the scene to collect evidence. Investigators are also recording statements from neighbors and other nearby residents.
According to SSP Korangi, the incident is an internal matter of the family. He claimed that the accused first killed his daughters and later his wife.
He added that the police had to enter the house to reach the bodies and the injured man. Saduzai further said that Fawad’s family lived on the first floor, his brother lived on the second floor of the building.
I believe Fawad has killed: SSP
SSP Saduzai ruled out the possibility of someone breaking into the house and killing the victims as the family lived in a small part of a house, consisting of two rooms and no back entrance.
“After inspecting the house and circumstantial evidence, I believe that Fawad committed the murders,” a senior police officer told JEE News.
“From one room, we found three bodies — a woman and two children — and from another room, we found the body of another child,” he said.
SSP Saduzai said the accused’s mother and sister-in-law – who live downstairs – broke the door and entered their rooms. “The mother told me that she believed Fawad did [the murder].”
The mother told authorities that the relationship between the couple never deteriorated to the point that he would kill his wife, although they often fought, the police officer said.
SSP Saduzai said it was possible that the victims were drugged before being killed because given the amount of blood in the house, they should have screamed for their lives — but they didn’t.
Fawad’s sister-in-law has told the police that she heard a scream from Fawad’s wife. About the drug addiction of the victims, he said that it can be confirmed after the forensic report.
The police said that they have not yet recorded Fawad’s statement as he was fragile.
Fawad has not received salary for four months: Mother
Talking to JEE News, the accused’s mother said that everything was fine till 1.30 pm.
He said that the girls also went to school and college. The accused’s mother added that she heard screams and called upstairs but no one picked up.
“When I went upstairs, the door didn’t open. When we shook the door, the hinge opened. After I went in, the girls were lying where they usually sleep. In the other room, my daughter-in-law was covered with a blanket,” she said. Narrating the details of the incident, she said.
Fawad’s mother added that her son and daughter-in-law never complained about anything.
“Today, all my granddaughters met me and left for their studies. When I went in, my son Fawad was also lying injured.
“My son has not received salary for four months,” he added.
