Sources told JEE News on Saturday that Mickey Arthur, who is a South African legend and has coached several teams including Pakistan, is a strong candidate for the post of head coach of the Green Shirts.
Current head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and bowling coach Sean Tait – who were hired for a year in February 2022 – may not be retained by the new Najam Sethi-led management of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
However, Mohammad Yusuf, batting coach of the National High Performance Center, was given assignments with the national team on a series-to-series basis by the PCB.
Sources say that the PCB will soon start the process of appointing new batting, bowling and head coaches.
Najam Sethi, the newly appointed chairman of PCB’s management committee, has indicated to hire a foreign coach for the team.
Sources say that Arthur coached the national squad from 2016 to 2019 and under his leadership, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy in 2017. He said that the members of the management committee are also in favor of the appointment of a South African citizen.
PCB sacked board members, selection committee.
Sources told JEE News that a day ago the management committee of the cricket board informed the members of the governing board and the heads of the selection committee including chief selector Mohammad Wasim about his dismissal.
Officials familiar with the development said that the PCB had informed the officials that their post was no longer valid after the expiry of the PCB’s 2019 constitution.
Waseem was also notified of his dismissal via email. The Women and Junior Selection Committees will also be reconstituted.
The development comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed an executive committee to restore the 2014 constitution and named PCB chairman Najam Sethi.
The Executive Committee has been tasked with revoking the PCB Constitution 2019 approving the proposal in para 7 of the summary.
