Microsoft is Secretly Building a Mobile Xbox Store

Microsoft relies on Activision Blizzard for mobile gaming. Microsoft is secretly building a mobile Xbox Store that will feature Activision and King titles.

In an effort to sell games directly to mobile devices like Apple and Google, Microsoft is launching an Xbox Mobile Shop. Earlier this year, the software giant hinted at a “next-generation” store that it would “make for games” and now, in a confidential filing with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, it has revealed those intentions. (CMA) is fully disclosed.

Sony’s concerns that Call of Duty could become an Xbox exclusive have been at the center of much of the discussion surrounding the acquisition. Sony’s main argument is that it’s unfair for Xbox to feature Call of Duty.

Sony’s resistance to integration centers primarily on Call of Duty, though Activision Blizzard has more to offer than just that one franchise. King, creator of the popular mobile game Candy Crush, will also be made available to Microsoft.

To compete with Apple’s App Store and Google Play, Microsoft needs to offer popular games like Candy Crush Saga and Call of Duty: Mobile.
