London: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has resigned from his ministry and submitted his resignation to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) supremo Nawaz Sharif in London.

The finance minister tendered his resignation during a high-level meeting of PML-N chaired by Nawaz Sharif and attended by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar, Ahad Cheema and others.

During the meeting, Miftah Ismail said, “You have trusted me with regard to their work and I tried to serve the nation with all my ability.”

Nawaz Sharif praised his efforts for taking charge at the most difficult time as the meeting agreed that the present government had to bear the brunt of the economic crisis created by the previous ruler.

According to sources, Nawaz Sharif also nominated Ishaq Dar as the next finance minister of the coalition government in the meeting.

He said that Miftah Ismail will formally announce his resignation as soon as he reaches Pakistan. He has been informed about Ishaq Dar becoming the next finance minister of the country.
