Musk Says Twitter Blue is ‘Probably’ Coming Back Next Weekend

Billionaire owner Elon Musk said in a tweet on Saturday that Twitter Blue will likely “return next weekend.”

Twitter on Friday halted its recently announced $8 Blue Check subscription service as fake accounts surged.

The coveted blue mark was previously reserved for verified accounts of politicians, celebrities, journalists and other public figures. But a subscription option, open to anyone willing to pay, was introduced earlier this week to boost Twitter’s revenue as Musk fights to retain advertisers.

Several users reported on Friday that the new subscription option for the blue verification mark had disappeared, while a source told JEE News the offer had been discontinued.

Twitter’s support account — which has an “Official” tag — tweeted Friday, “To combat impersonation, we’ve added the ‘Official’ label to some accounts.”

The label was originally introduced on Wednesday – but was “killed” by Musk just hours later.

On Thursday, in his first company-wide email, Musk warned that Twitter “will not survive the coming economic downturn” if it fails to increase subscription revenue to offset declining advertising revenue. Three onlookers told JEE News.
