ISLAMABAD: In a major development to further protect the privacy of citizens’ data, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Thursday introduced Pakistan’s first data protection service to provide citizens with access to their personal information. Made in charge.

This state-of-the-art ‘Ajazat Aap Ki’ service will enable citizens to give their consent prior to CNIC verification, ensuring that their sensitive data is safe and secure at all times.

By giving real and effective ownership to citizens and banning unauthorized access, it has taken an unprecedented step, NADRA said in a statement.

NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik while launching the service said that consent management is a digital mechanism in line with their vision to protect citizens’ privacy and strengthen data security.

“Your data is your personal property, and like your physical property, citizens are now empowered to control access and protect it from misuse or unnecessary use,” he said.

The NADRA chief said that service providers, including banks, will seek permission from the citizen through a passcode before using their personal information.

The country further emphasized the need for citizens to be vigilant in protecting their personal information and urged them to take all necessary precautions to prevent identity theft and fraud.

How will it work?
From March 2, all authentication transactions will require a 6-digit passcode sent to a citizen’s registered mobile number to obtain their consent for data sharing.

The PIN number will be submitted for verification and will be considered as consent of the citizen to get his ID number verified by NADRA.

NADRA collects mobile numbers of citizens at the time of ID card registration. The authority has also launched an SMS service, through which citizens will be able to register their mobile numbers.

They can send a text message containing their 13-digit ID card number to the short code to register their mobile number with NADRA. In response, NADRA will send a confirmation message to the sender if the enrollment is successful.
