Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi on Monday announced that Babar Azam will continue to fulfill his duties as captain and urged people to support him.
PCB appointed Shadab Khan as the stand-in captain for the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan in which senior players including captain Babar Azam were rested.
The PCB’s move sparked speculation that the star batsman may lose the captaincy in one format and the board is scouting players for leadership roles.
Clearing the air about Babar’s role in the team, Sethi said he has sought the opinion of the selection committee – headed by Shahid Afridi and Haroon Rashid – on the matter.
“Both committees thought the matter was debatable but both later came to the conclusion that the status quo should be maintained. I have subsequently stated this position publicly. In the final analysis, my decision is the success or failure of the status quo.” will be subject to. Chairman PCB said.

Sethi also said that the skipper should be supported, urging that the matter surrounding his captaincy should not be made “controversial” in the national team’s interest.
3/3. I will also be guided by what the Selectors and Director Cricket Ops and Head Coach have to say going forward. I expect they will be in the best position to advise me. Therefore we should support Babar and not make matter controversial in interests of national team.
