Nawaz Sharif went to London for treatment in November 2019 after being convicted in corruption cases by the accountability court and has been living there ever since.

Earlier, the PML-N leadership had claimed that Nawaz would return to Pakistan by mid-September. However, the plan has changed in the last few days after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that elections would not be possible within 90 days.
