Netflix has confirmed a second season of Australian teen drama Heartbreak High.
On October 19, Netflix announced that Heartbreak High had been renewed for a second season and was returning with its original cast.
According to Variety, the cast has assembled for pre-production and filming in Sydney, Australia, and nearby Gadigal, Dharug, Dharwal, and Ko-Rang-Gai lands.
The show is a reimagining of the Australian television series that first aired on Network Ten between 1994 and 1996, and a second version ran from 1997 to 1999.
Heartbreak High is about the lives of the staff and students of a multicultural high school. It spawned an original stage play in 1987, followed by a film in 1993, The Heartbreak Kid. This started the television series.
Produced by Fremantle Australia and NewB, the series aired on 14 September 2022, and spent five weeks in Australia’s top 10 TV shows on Netflix.
According to the outlet, it also spent three weeks in the global top 10 TV shows on Netflix and accumulated more than 42.6M hours watched in those three weeks.
