‘New washroom with 5 feet high walls, door was made in Imran Khan’s cell in Attock Jail’

Punjab Prisons Department (PPD) spokesman clarified on Tuesday that Attock Jail has a new washroom with 5 feet high walls and a door for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The clarification by the spokesperson came after Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Attock Shafqatullah Khan visited the former prime minister’s cell and raised complaints and concerns about his living conditions – including privacy in the washroom. Deficit of – termed ‘real’.

A clarification issued by the PPD spokesperson said that the PTI chief has been provided all facilities available under rules 257 and 771 of the Pakistan Prison Rules, 1978.

Addressing concerns about lack of privacy in the bathroom, the spokesperson said that a new washroom has been constructed in the PTI chairman’s cell.

He said that the walls of the washroom have been made five feet high and a door has also been installed, adding that a western commode and a wash basin have also been installed in the washroom.

Khan is currently serving a three-year sentence in Attock jail after being found guilty of corruption in the Tosha Khana case earlier this month.

In the observation – released on Monday and dated August 15 – the judge said Khan had expressed “serious concerns” about the violation of his privacy on his visit and the current living conditions inside the jail. .

He raised significant concerns about a CCTV camera installed in front of his prison bars, located five to six feet away, covering an open bathroom and latrine.

Regarding the CCTV cameras, the spokesman said they were installed outside the room.

The statement added that “CCTV cameras have been installed outside Imran Khan’s room for his security and that of the jail. Not only in District Jail Attock but also in other jails of Punjab, more than 4,000 CCTV cameras have been installed for security purposes.” CCTV cameras have been installed.”

He further informed that amenities like bath soap, perfume, air freshener, towels, bed with tissue papers, pillows, mattress, table, chairs, air conditioner and exhaust fan have been provided.

Further, he added that five doctors were appointed for Khan, one of whom was available at all times, and that Khan was given “special” food only after the doctors checked him.

The spokesman added that fruits, honey, dates, prayer mats, Quran and books have also been given.

The report also stated that Khan complained that his wife and lawyers did not have easy access to him. However, the spokesperson said that PTI chairman’s family meets him on Tuesday while his lawyers meet him on Thursday.

Last week, Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi also raised concerns over the possibility of her husband being “poisoned” while incarcerated in District Jail Attock.

In a letter written to Punjab’s Home Secretary on August 17, Imran’s wife had demanded that the former prime minister be transferred from District Jail Attock to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, fearing that he might be poisoned in the lock-up. According to the letter, the former prime minister’s life was in danger as “he had been attacked twice in the past with one shot on his body.”

In a related development, the PTI’s core committee meeting highlighted the observations of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shafqatullah Khan who confirmed the ‘ill-treatment of him in Attock Jail. PTI Chairman is being treated inhumanely and illegally in Attock Jail.

Meanwhile, Caretaker Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said that the PTI chief was allowed to meet visitors and provided facilities as per his request for imprisonment. Bugti said he would definitely inquire with the Punjab government and jail authorities about other issues raised in the inspection report, such as CCTV cameras.

“We will ensure that all the facilities and jail class that he (Imran) applied for and that he is entitled to as a former prime minister as per law, will be provided to him. Where As far as I know, he has a bed and is provided with newspapers but he will only get such facilities as the relevant laws allow.
