ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s dream university, Al Qadir Institute, has admitted only 100 students two years after its establishment.

The former Prime Minister’s University – established in 2021 in Suhawah, Jhelum – is yet to be recognized as a university by the Punjab government. Al-Qadir admitted 41 students in its first year while in the second year only 60 students were admitted.

The institution charges fees from its students despite being registered as a trust. All expenses of the Al-Qadir Trust are being borne by a major businessman as per its contract, which was previously reported in JEE News.

Dr. Arif Nazir Butt, one of the trustees of Al-Qadir Institute, said that the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has not yet granted degree-granting status to Al-Qadir Institute, and the institution is still affiliated to Government College University. Only two programs, Management Sciences and Islamic Studies.

“The process is in its final stages and soon we will be given the degree awarding status,” claimed Dr Arif.

Dr. Amjadur Rahman, who is in-charge of Al-Qadir Institute, admitted that the institute has admitted only 100 students so far.

“In the first batch, we enrolled 40 students, and in the second batch another 60 were enrolled. 20 in Islamic Studies and 40 in Management Sciences,” he explained.

When asked if they charge fees from students, Dr. Amjad said that only 10 percent of the total students are charged.

Elaborating further, Dr Amjad said: “The fee is charged so that the students are inclined towards studies and the institution becomes self-sustainable. Al-Qadir Institute seeks independence from donations.

Initially, the business magnate had donated 458 kanals of land to Al-Qadri Institute which, according to stamp paper, was worth Rs 244 million in 2019.

The land was first transferred to Zulfi Bukhari, who later transferred it after the formation of the trust in January 2021. This land is located in Mauza Bakrala, Tehsil Sohawah, District Jhelum.

The acknowledgment agreement for the donated land was signed between Bushra Khan (on behalf of Al-Qader University) and the donor while Imran Khan (Chairman of Al-Qader University) held the office of Prime Minister.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the trust received donations of Rs 180 million. The total income of the trust from July 2020 to June 2021 was Rs 101 million while the total expenditure including salaries of staff and workers was only around Rs 8.58 million.

More importantly, within weeks of the cabinet decision on December 26, 2019, the former prime minister registered the trust for the Al-Qadir University project, which later became a donor to the university.

On 2 December 2019, three weeks before the registration of the trust, Imran Khan’s cabinet raised the issue of account freezing orders (AFOs) and repatriation of funds to Pakistan by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

NCA England closed the investigation against the CEO of the housing society and nearly £140 million was repatriated to Pakistan from the top businessman’s overseas account.

Later, about 140 million pounds were repatriated to Pakistan, but the money ended up in the Supreme Court’s account at the National Bank of Pakistan. It raised questions about whether the money was to be transferred to government accounts or credited to SC accounts as the businessman had agreed to pay Rs 460 billion to the SCP.

In the month following the registration of the trust deed at the Sub-Registrar Office, Islamabad, the housing society purchased around 460 kanals of land in Jhelum and transferred it to Zulfi Bukhari.

On 24 March 2021, the donation of land, along with other donations from the housing society such as infrastructure and other arrangements, was acknowledged through an agreement signed between Bushra Bibi and the housing society at Imran Khan’s residence when He held the post of Prime Minister. Office.
