Pak vs New Zealand: New Zealand appointed Saqlain Mushtaq as assistant coach for Pakistan tour

Former Pakistan head coach Saqlain Mushtaq has been appointed as New Zealand’s assistant coach, it was revealed on Saturday.

The former cricketer resigned as the interim head coach of the national cricket squad in January.

Confirming the news, the ‘Second’ creator said, “I am currently in the US and will join the NZ squad on my return on April 12”.

“It’s a short term engagement with the New Zealand squad which is an honor for me,” Mushtaq said.

However, he said he would support the Kiwis when they tour Pakistan for a five-match T20I and one-day international (ODI) series later this month. This will be Mushtaq’s first assignment with the New Zealand cricket team.

It may be noted that Pakistan’s home series against New Zealand was Mushtaq Ahmed’s last assignment as head coach as his contract expired in February.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to appoint Mickey Arthur once again.

Reports say that the board is also likely to appoint Grant Bradburn as assistant coach and former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel as bowling coach. Andrew Potik is likely to be appointed as Pakistan’s batting coach.

The coaching panel is expected to join the team before the start of the home series against New Zealand.
