Pakistan has qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup by defeating Bangladesh by five wickets.

After South Africa were defeated by the Netherlands, the game between the two sides turned into a virtual quarter-final.

Earlier, Bangladesh had set a target of 128 runs to Pakistan during the crucial match of T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday.

Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi took four wickets to ease Bangladesh to a paltry score with a place in the semi-finals on the line on Sunday.

The winner of the Super 12 clash in Adelaide will go into the semi-finals with India – who qualified after the Netherlands defeated South Africa – from Group 2.

Shaheen, who returned his best T20I figures of 4-22, struck early for Pakistan as Bangladesh sent back Layton Das for 10 after Bangladesh elected to bat first.

Das, who gave India a scare with his 27-ball 60 at the Adelaide Oval, looked dangerous with a six off Shaheen but was caught at gully three balls later.

Najamul Hussain Shantu took advantage of the respite when the usually reserved Shadab Khan dropped the left-hander at short extras of 11. The opener went on to top score with 54.

Shantu put on 52 with Soumya Sarkar, who came out attacking.

Soumya made 20 in 17 before an attempt at a reverse paddle sweep led to his wicket being dropped by Shadab, who, despite the controversy, was struck again on the very next ball.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan was given out LBW but he reviewed the decision and replays showed that the ball had circled the bat before hitting the pads but the third umpire upheld the on-field call. .

Shakib looked shocked, shook his hands and didn’t want to walk.

Shadab’s hat-trick was avoided by Afif Hussain.

Shakib’s wicket seemed to influence the Bangladesh batsmen, who suddenly looked out of sorts.

Shantu was bowled by off-spinner Iftikhar Ahmed shortly after the batsman reached his second T20 fifty.

Bangladesh lost regular wickets and Shaheen struck twice in an over and then took the fourth wicket for the first time in his T20 career.

Afif Hussain scored an unbeaten 24 runs.
