Pakistan defeated England by five runs in the fifth T20I to take a 3-2 lead in the seven-match series.

The home side successfully defended the target of 146 runs by restricting the opposition to 139/7 in 20 overs.

England needed 15 runs from the last over but debutant Amir Jamal (1/13) held his nerve against veteran Moeen (51 not out) to get Pakistan over the line.

Haris Rauf (2/41) impressed with the ball and five other Pakistan bowlers took a wicket each.

Earlier, England fast bowler Mark Wood’s blistering pace helped the tourists bowl out Pakistan for 145 in the fifth T20I in Lahore on Wednesday.

Wood – playing just his second international since undergoing elbow surgery – took 3-20 after sending the home side into bat at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Wood’s fellow pacers Sam Curran (2-23) and David Willey (2-23) also bowled admirably as Pakistan were bowled out in 19 overs.

Amid a middle-order collapse of 42-1 that saw Pakistan lose six wickets for just 58 runs off 48 balls – opener Mohammad Rizwan played a brilliant knock of 63 off 46 balls.

Wood dismissed Pakistan captain Babar Azam for 9 in the third over before David Willey removed Shaun Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed to derail Pakistan.

Mohammad Nawaz was on a wicket and Shadab Khan was a victim of a wrong run-out to send Pakistan to 100-7.

Rizwan completed his 20th T20I half-century before hitting Curran straight to Adil Rashid at deep square leg in the 18th over.

Rizwan hit three sixes and two fours.

The teams will meet again on Friday at the same venue.
