KARACHI: The Karachi Police has decided to approach the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to arrest a foreign national who killed a policeman in the port city earlier this week.
The decision was taken after suspect Khurram Nisar – who shot dead policeman Abdul Rahman in the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) Phase V area late on Monday night – fled to Sweden.
Speaking to JEE News, DIG South Irfan Baloch said that the police have initiated legal proceedings to arrest the suspect, who is said to be a Swedish citizen.
“We are writing to Director General Passport to seize his passport and we are also approaching FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) to contact Interpol,” he said.
Police sources told JEE News on Tuesday night that Nasser – the son of a former bureaucrat – had boarded an international airline flight via Istanbul, bound for Sweden. Police sources said that the accused used his Swedish passport to escape from Pakistan.
In their statement during the interrogation on Tuesday, according to the police, Nisar’s parents have “denied” it and claimed that they have no knowledge about the whereabouts of the accused.
“Nisar comes to Pakistan once a year. We have no idea what he does when he comes to Pakistan. We cannot take any responsibility for his actions,” the parents told investigators. told investigators.

The FIR also states that the policeman fired at the shooter, but missed.

According to JEE News, the slain policeman and his partner followed and spoke to the suspected shooter when they allegedly saw suspicious activity.
A few video footages showed an altercation between Rehman and Nisar.
Footage of the shooting was captured by CCTV cameras showing Rehman and Nisar getting out of the passenger seat and driver’s seat respectively of a black windowed vehicle.
In the same video, the policeman can be seen holding a pistol and directing Nisar to sit in the car and go to the police station.
