LAHORE: After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to tour Pakistan for next year’s Asia Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to host the 2023 World Cup in India next year. I am considering not attending. Sources told Geo News.
The board is already considering pulling out of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) following India’s decision.
The PCB has started considering several options and not participating in next year’s mega cricket tournament is also under consideration.
According to the sources, the meeting of the board’s think tank is going on in Lahore, in which other issues including participation in the Asia Cup and India’s rejection are being considered.
According to sources, PCB will term the decision of BACC president and BCCI secretary Jay Shah’s visit as unnecessary and hasty, adding that Shah cannot take a unilateral decision on his own.
India is scheduled to host the World Cup 2023 from October to November next year.
Pakistan and India only compete in world tournaments, the last match was Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai. India last hosted Pakistan in a bilateral series in 2013.
BCCI will insist on a neutral venue for the tournament after the board’s annual general meeting, JEE News reported.
“A neutral venue for the Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan,” Shah said.
“I have decided that we will play at a neutral venue,” he added.
