Pakistan Reports 18th polio case from North Waziristan

Pakistan’s 18th case of polio has been reported from North Waziristan, a district that has become a hotbed of the disabling disease in the country.

The spokesman of the National Institute of Health (NIC) says that the southern and northern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province have been declared sensitive and emergency measures are being taken to completely eradicate polio from the country.

After nearly 15 months of being a polio-free country, Pakistan has reported its 18th case of the polio virus so far in 2022.

In April 2022, the National Polio Laboratory of Pakistan confirmed that the first case of polio was found in North Waziristan, 15 months later the last case of poliovirus was reported from Qila Abdullah – Balochistan on 27 January 2021.
