KARACHI: All 14 of the world’s 8,000 climbers are close to their goal of becoming the youngest climbers after Pakistani young climber Shehroze Kashif successfully scaled the 8,167-metre Dhaulagiri-I in Nepal.
Shehroze started her final summit push last night and took her tally of 8-careers to 12 by reaching the top of Dhaulagiri early Wednesday morning.
At the age of 21, Shehroze is now the youngest person to summit 12 of the world’s peaks over 8,000 meters. There are a total of 14 such peaks and Shehroze has to climb two more peaks Chu-Oyo and Sheshapangma to achieve his goal.
He surpassed Nepal’s Mangama David Sherpa’s record – Mangama also holds the record for being the youngest person to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters. The Nepalese achieved this feat at the age of 30.
Shehroze is the second and youngest Pakistani to scale Dhaulagiri-I. Before him, Sarbaz Ali Khan, a well-known mountaineer from Hunza Valley, was the only one in the country to achieve this feat at a height of 8,167 meters.
She is the second youngest person to climb Dhaulagiri after Britain’s Adriana Brownlee. Brownlee was 20 years and 10 months old when he summited the seventh highest peak in 2021.
Known as “Broad Boy” for his feat of summiting the 8,051-meter Broad Peak at the age of 17, Shehroze holds the distinction of being the youngest climber of several peaks over 8,000 meters, including K2 and Kangchenjunga. There is a record of
After summiting Broad Peak in July 2019, the young climber scaled Mount Everest in 2021 at the age of 19. In the same year, he summited K2 and Manaslu. In the year 2022 Shahruz successfully summited Kangchenjunga, Lotse, Makalu, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbram-I and Gasherbram-II.
Earlier this year, the young climber summited Annapurna, the 10th highest peak in the world.
