A local court in Lahore on Tuesday ordered the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on bail in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) money laundering case against him.
This order was pronounced by the special court on the bail application of the former Punjab Chief Minister, who was arrested by the FIA on charges of money laundering.
The court ordered Elahi to submit a surety bond of Rs 500,000 against bail.
Judge Aslam Gondal of the Banking Crimes Court while delivering the verdict questioned the FIA for its non-cooperation attitude.
The learned judge said that despite the court order, the FIA did not submit the records.
On June 20, the FIA registered a case against the former Chief Minister of Punjab and his son on charges of money laundering and suspicious transactions. given.
It may be noted that Elahi was initially arrested in a corruption case on June 1, amid a crackdown on the PTI in the wake of the May 9 protests. He was subsequently arrested several times in various cases, including two money laundering cases.
During the hearing of his bail application in the Lahore High Court, the PTI president requested the court to grant him bail like PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
