Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi on Monday announced the appointment of former Test cricketer Haroon Rashid as the chief selector of the national men’s team.
Rashid, who represented Pakistan in 23 Tests and 12 ODIs, was a member of the Shahid Afridi-led interim selection committee that was appointed only for the home New Zealand ODI series.
At a news conference in Lahore on Monday, PCB’s de facto chief said: “After speculations, I finally confirm the appointment of Haroon Rashid as chief selector.”
A top board official said that Haroon will get time to build his team and work for the betterment of Pakistan.
The PCB reportedly wanted to retain Afridi as chief selector, however, the former all-rounder reportedly declined the permanent role citing personal commitments.
Looking ahead, Sethi thinks Rasheed is the right man for the job. “I have worked with him. He is a capable individual, and I have given him a free hand to build my team and take decisions,” the management committee chairman added.
Rashid previously served as the Chief Selector of the National Men’s Team from 2015 to 2016 and the National Team Manager from 2003 to 2005.
