He expressed these views while addressing the ministerial meeting of the Coordination Group on Jammu and Kashmir of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the occasion of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The foreign minister said that Pakistan is ready to resume talks with India to resolve the dispute, but it is India’s responsibility to create a favorable environment for such talks.

He said that the OIC Contact Group has played an important role in drawing international attention to the deteriorating situation in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and that this forum should play its role in raising the issue at relevant UN forums. Should.

Later, while addressing the 12th ministerial meeting of the United Nations Group of Friends of Mediation under the joint chairmanship of Turkey and Finland in New York, Bilawal urged the UN Secretary General to ask India to withdraw its unilateral actions. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the UN Security Council should fully support the Secretary General in using his good offices for this purpose.

He said that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is one of the oldest issues on the agenda of the Council. Initially, the Security Council decided that “the final decision of the State of Jammu and Kashmir shall be in accordance with the will of the people as expressed democratically through a free and impartial referendum organized by the United Nations.”

The Foreign Minister of Pakistan said that unfortunately, during the last seven decades, India has obstructed the efforts of the United Nations mechanism to implement the Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The continuation of India’s illegal actions was reflected in the unilateral annexation of the Occupied Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on and since August 5, 2019, without legal justification or the fig leaf of a referendum.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that repeated appeals by the Secretary General to increase diplomacy for peace are urgent and important. Such escalation of diplomacy should come from the United Nations, he said.

He said that Pakistan appreciates UN Secretary General and Turkish President Erdogan for successfully mediating the historic Black Sea Green Initiative.
