A popular car maker was allegedly duped of over INR 10 million by a con artist who sent fake WhatsApp messages to the company’s chief financial officer in the identity of its vice chairman.
The money was transferred to seven different bank accounts. According to the police, an FIR has been registered at the cyber crime police station.
JBM Group Chief Financial Officer Vivek Gupta has reportedly complained that he received messages on WhatsApp, asking him to transfer specific amounts to bank accounts specified in the messages.
Inspector Om Prakash said, “An FIR under Section 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating) of the IPC and Section 66-D of the IT Act has been registered at the cybercrime police station against the unknown fraudster. has been entered.”
