Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Thursday directed the Punjab Police chief to form a high-powered joint investigation team to investigate the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in Wazirabad Tehsil of Gujranwala.
He further directed the suspension of the local SHO and ordered an inquiry into who leaked the alleged video confession of the arrested accused.
These instructions were issued during a high-level meeting chaired by Elahi on Thursday evening. Inspector General of Punjab Police (IGP), Punjab Assembly Speaker Sabtain Khan and many others were among those who participated in the meeting.
Elahi asked the Punjab Inspector General of Police to form a high-powered team to investigate the attack.
The police chief was directed to include the officers of the anti-terrorism department of the police in the team.
“We want to know who directed these attackers, where they were trained, etc.,” Elahi said as he confirmed that there were at least two attackers.
SHO Suspended
On the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Wazirabad and several other officers have been suspended for leaking the alleged confessional video of a suspected gunman involved in the assassination of the former prime minister.
The Chief of Punjab Police was directed to submit a report in this regard.
Apart from suspending them, the mobile phones of all the employees of the concerned police station were confiscated.
Mobile phones will be sent for forensic audit as per the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab.
