Lahore: Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, who was removed from the post of Punjab Chief Minister by Governor Balighur Rehman, has made up his mind to approach the court rejecting the notification.

“I reject the de-notification. I am the Chief Minister of Punjab and the cabinet will continue to function,” said Chaudhry Pervez Elahi while talking to the media on Friday morning.

Elahi’s legal team headed by Aamir Saeed Advocate will approach the court against the decision.

Punjab Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raja Basharat also met Parvez Elahi and discussed legal options before going to court this morning.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also rejected the Governor’s notification. Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said that the notification de-notifying Chief Minister Elahi has no legal status.

On Twitter, Fawad said that Pervez Elahi and the provincial cabinet will continue to perform their duties and a reference will be sent to the president for the removal of the governor.

An official letter to President Arif Alvi is being drafted highlighting the alleged misconduct of the Governor and a petition against Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman is also being prepared.

PTI’s legal team will approach the court today.

Governor nominated Elahi as Chief Minister.
The Governor issued a de-notification order for the Muslim League (N) and dismissed Pervez Elahi from his post because, according to him, he did not command a majority vote in the provincial assembly.

“As the Chief Minister has avoided taking the vote of confidence on the appointed day and time, he steps down. Orders issued this evening,” Rehman wrote on his Twitter handle while sharing a copy of the notification.

In the notification, the governor mentioned that despite the order to take the vote of confidence to the chief minister, he did not follow it. Further, Elahi did not take the vote even after 24 hours, the notification said.

The notification said, “I am satisfied that he does not enjoy the confidence of the majority of the members of the Punjab Assembly and therefore resigns immediately.”

The notification also states that the provincial cabinet has been dissolved and the chief minister will continue to hold office until a new person is elected.
