Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday termed former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan as a threat to the country’s national fabric.

He asked whether Imran Khan had consulted the opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif on extending the tenure of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

He also said that Imran Khan’s resignation from Parliament is yet to be approved, so he is welcome to return to the lower house like any member of the National Assembly.

He said this while addressing a news conference in Islamabad after more than a week of visits to two world summits.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has come out of global isolation after a fortnight spent abroad rubbing shoulders with world leaders and building goodwill.

Shahbaz detailed his meetings with world leaders, first at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan and then at the high-level function of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Shehbaz said he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Uzbekistan, and then King Charles III and England’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss in London this weekend during the funeral week for heads of state. Met at reception. This was followed by meetings with Queen Elizabeth II and then French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Joe Biden.
