ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will celebrate his 72nd birthday today (Friday) in Manhattan (New York) as the day coincides with his first address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit. . He will be the 14th speaker at the morning session of the 77th UNGA. On Thursday, local leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League (PMLN), led by Abdul Khaliq Awan, met him and Shahbaz Sharif agreed to attend the cake-cutting ceremony in the evening.
The ceremony will be held at Plaza Hotel New York where the Prime Minister and some members of his delegation are staying. According to Abdul Khaliq Awan, Shahbaz Sharif made it clear to the PMLN delegation that he is not celebrating his birthday due to the flood situation in the country. PMLN leaders also agreed to announce their contribution through donations for the flood victims on the occasion.
Shahbaz Sharif has asked his family not to celebrate his birthday due to the flood situation in the country. The Prime Minister will return to Islamabad on Saturday morning after completing his visit to the United Nations. His plane will make a technical landing to refuel on its return journey. The touchdown destination during the return journey has not been announced for security reasons.
