ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will participate in the high-level discussions of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 19 to 23, 2022.
According to the Foreign Office, the Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Foreign Minister, other cabinet members and senior officials.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the United Nations General Assembly on September 23, in which he will focus on the challenges facing Pakistan after the recent climate-related devastating floods. The Prime Minister will outline concrete proposals to collectively address the existential threat posed by climate change.
He will also share Pakistan’s position and approach on regional and global issues of concern, including Jammu and Kashmir, one of the long-standing unresolved conflicts on the UN agenda.
On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the Prime Minister will attend the Global Food Security Summit jointly organized by the African Union, the European Union and the United States. He will also attend the closed-door leaders’ gathering at COP-27, which will bring together selected world leaders to discuss climate change.
The Foreign Office said that these will be important platforms to discuss the effective measures required at the global level to address the two most pressing challenges facing the international community today.
In addition, the Prime Minister interacted with his counterparts from various countries, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the Secretary General of the United Nations as well as the heads of foreign agencies, International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and many bilateral organizations. Will have meetings.
World leaders will also have the opportunity to interact during a reception hosted by the head of the United Nations and the president of the United States. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also interact with the international media.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also have an extensive program of participation in various high-level meetings and events, bilateral meetings with several of his counterparts, media and think tank discussions,
He will chair the annual meeting of the G-77 and China’s foreign ministers, attend the OIC’s annual coordination meeting of foreign ministers and the meeting of the OIC coordination group on Jammu and Kashmir.
The Foreign Office said that the Prime Minister’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly is a manifestation of Pakistan’s constant commitment to multilateralism.
It said that as the current Chair of Group of 77 and China and OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, Pakistan will serve as the collective voice of the Global South to promote international peace and security, sustainable development and human rights in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter.
