LAHORE: Members of the Punjab Assembly belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) have been asked to stay in Lahore as their party believes that they may not be able to attend a meeting called next week. Presence may be required.
The directive was given by the party’s Punjab President Rana Sanaullah Khan, who presided over a meeting with MPs in Lahore on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed in detail the possibility that Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi may try to take a vote of confidence in the assembly session called on January 9. The current number game was also discussed in the meeting.
Sources said that during the meeting, majority of the MPs expressed their concerns over the economic situation, rising inflation and unemployment. The MPA said that he could not travel to his constituencies as people would ask him about high electricity rates, petrol prices and unabated rise in prices of essential commodities.
Sanaullah assured the members that he would address their concerns as soon as possible.
Sources say that Sanaullah told the members of the assembly that the federal government is taking major decisions keeping in mind the problems of the people. He said that the party will become more active after Maryam Nawaz’s return and her new role as senior vice president and chief organizer of the party.
Sanaullah said that the federal government is trying hard to get out of the current economic crisis. He admitted that there are reservations within the PMLN on some issues but there is no grouping and the party remains intact. Interior Minister also said that Nawaz Sharif will come to Pakistan very soon.
He said that Imran Khan talks about dissolving the assemblies but does not take steps.
Meanwhile, after getting a new position in the party, Maryam Nawaz Sharif resumed her political activities and held various online meetings with the party leadership. He told the party leaders that a performance report of the party’s administrative position would be prepared and submitted to him after taking charge as the chief organizer of the party.
Sources say that Maryam Nawaz has indicated to bring important changes in the structure of the party after reviewing the performance of the people holding administrative positions. Sources claimed that Maryam Nawaz is likely to return to Pakistan in the last week of this month.
