LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (N) has indicated to impose governor’s rule in Punjab to prevent Tehreek-e-Insaaf from dissolving the assembly.
After holding another round of talks with coalition partner PPP, Muslim League-N’s Ataullah Tarar on Tuesday said opposition parties in Punjab are ready to fight the PTI’s attempt to dissolve the provincial assembly. So will announce their strategy in a day or two.
The PML-N leader said that when the resolution comes from the National Assembly and the Senate and goes to the President, Governor’s rule can be imposed.
After PTI’s senior leadership gave the green flag to former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to secede from all assemblies to hold early elections, the Muslim League (N) and the People’s Party (PPP) to save the Punjab Assembly. Efforts are being made.
In a surprise move, the PTI chief announced last week that the party did not want to be part of this “corrupt” system and would walk out of the assemblies.
Immediately after the announcement, the PDM parties started consultations to thwart the PTI plan and a meeting was held at the PML-N’s Model Town office yesterday.
Today, a delegation of the People’s Party in the Punjab Assembly headed by the parliamentary leader of the People’s Party Syed Hasan Murtaza visited the secretariat of the Muslim League-N, where both parties discussed the emerging political situation.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, SAPM Attaullah Tarar said that the leaders of the People’s Party met Hamza Shahbaz on the instructions of Asif Zardari as part of the consultation process.
“We discussed the no-confidence motion in the Punjab Assembly,” Tarr said, adding that he would use all options to prevent the PTI from dissolving the assembly.
If the Punjab Assembly is dissolved on Imran Khan’s request, it will be unconstitutional.
Tarar said that the assembly should complete its term and warned the ruling party against robbing the people’s mandate.
“Various options have been discussed in detail. Government members of the Punjab Assembly are also anxious about this development and many members of the assembly are also in touch with us.”
He claimed that PTI’s parliamentary party is in disarray.
Tarar said that according to law, no member can be prevented from moving or voting on a no-confidence motion.
He added that after further consultation, all the coalition parties will make an announcement in a couple of days.
People’s Party stands with Muslim League-N.
On this occasion, PPP leader Hasan Murtaza thanked the leadership of Muslim League-N for including allies in the consultation process.
Hassan Murtaza said that it is now clear who wants to strengthen the parliamentary system and who wants to weaken it.
People’s Party will stand side by side with its allies.
He also questioned the reason for dissolving the assemblies.
