PML-N leads with 12 seats in LG elections of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Muzaffarabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won 12 seats in Muzaffarabad in the first phase of local elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, followed by PTI with eight and Pakistan Peoples Party and independent candidates with seven. , tied for second with seven.

In the first phase of local government elections after 31 years, voters braved snow and freezing temperatures to cast their votes.

Polling started at 8 am and continued till 5 pm without any break.

According to the unofficial unofficial results, PTI won 10 seats, PMLN 5 and PPP 3 in Jhelum Union Council, while PTI won 7 seats in Neelum Union Council followed by PML. N and PPP won three seats each. Two independent candidates – Fateh and Raja Farooq won 100 percent in the town committee.

PMLN’s candidate Shah Ghulam Qadir and PPP’s Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly member lost from their native seats.

In Municipal Corporation Muzaffarabad, PML-N came first with 12 seats, PTI came second with eight seats, People’s Party and independent candidates won seven, while Muslim Conference won two seats.

It has been reported that PTI did not field its candidates against the five independent candidates who won.

Out of 18 Jhelum Union Council seats, PTI won 10, PMLN 5 and PPP three.

Out of 15 Neelam Union Council seats, PTI won seven, PML-N and PPP won three each, while the remaining two were successful independent candidates.

Former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider won 100 percent victory in his hometown committee, while PMLN’s Shah Ghulam Qadir and PPP’s Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly member won Union Council seats in their hometowns. They lost.

By securing 41 seats in the Union Council, Pakistan People’s Party has an advantage over other parties.

Due to poor police presence in some constituencies, a few untoward incidents took place. However, overall the elections were peaceful, smooth and orderly.

A clash between two groups took place at the polling station in Alwar Sharif Union Council of Muzaffarabad in which 3 people including a policeman were injured and shifted to the hospital.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf fielded 575 candidates, People’s Party 545, PML-N 465, Muslim Conference 113, Tehreek-e-Labaik 67 and Jamaat-e-Islami 46 while there were 900 independent candidates.
