Renowned poet/playwright Amjad Islam Amjad passed away in Lahore.
The news of his death was confirmed by his family. According to him, the 78-year-old poet died of a heart attack.
Amjad was born on August 4, 1944 in Lahore. He did matriculation in Urdu from Punjab University in 1967. In 1968, he was appointed Professor of Urdu at MAO College, Lahore. He remained a professor there till 1975. In August of the same year, he became the Deputy Director at the Arts Council of Punjab.
He has been an important part of the literary world. Some of his famous plays include; Heirs, Deen, Fisher and more. In 1975, his famous TV drama ‘Khoob Jagte Hain’ won the award.
He also translated the poetry of African poets into Urdu called Roshan Nazmin of Kale Logon.
Amjad Islam Amjad also wrote critical plays. He has been awarded many national and international awards. He was awarded Pride of Performance in 1987 and Satara Imtiaz in 1998. Later he also received the Tagha Imtiaz in 1998.
