Warsaw said on Monday that Poles living in Belarus should leave because relations between Poland and Belarus are deteriorating, in part because of the war in Ukraine.
These recommendations are comparable to those made by the Poles in Russia, a close ally of Belarus, in September.
“We recommend that Polish citizens living on the territory of the Republic of Belarus leave their territory using available commercial and private means,” the government said in an advisory for travelers posted on its website. “We recommend that citizens of Poland leave the territory of the Republic of Belarus.”
Relations between Warsaw and Minsk began to deteriorate when Poland accused its eastern neighbor of engineering a migrant crisis on its border in 2021. Relations between the two capitals have become more strained since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
According to Warsaw, the Polish minority in Belarus is subject to state repression, resulting in the imprisonment of some community leaders.
