Karachi Police has submitted the preliminary investigation report of the attack on ‘Chinese’ dentists in Sadar to the Anti-Terrorism Court.
Last week, a Canadian-Pakistani was killed and two others were injured when an assailant opened fire inside a dental clinic on one of Karachi’s main Bazar Sadar main streets.
According to police officials and eyewitnesses, the incident took place at Ho Dental Clinic, one of several ‘Chinese’ dental clinics on Priddy Street (also known as Shahrah Liaquat) near Empress Market.
On Tuesday, the police told the court that the attack was an attempt to spoil Pakistan-China relations.
The deceased was working as a cashier at Ronald Raymond Chow Clinic. The injured were identified as Ho Dental Clinic owner Richard and his wife Fan Tiang.
The report claimed that there were two attackers. One of them entered the clinic pretending to be a patient while the other waited outside.
The police told the court that an FIR has been registered against the unknown assailants.
A new Sindhi separatist group had earlier claimed responsibility for the attack.
Soura Sindhi, a spokesperson for the Sindh People’s Army (SPA) – a new Sindhi separatist organization – has issued a statement claiming that the attack on the Pakistanis of Chinese origin was carried out by militants affiliated with the group.
