PPP demands timely elections, level-playing field

LAHORE: The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has expressed concern over the attempts to wall the party and added that the party should be provided with a level playing field.

In the meeting of CEC chaired by Chairman of People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at Bilawal House in Lahore, it was emphasized that if necessary, delimitation of constituencies must be done. To be done within the statutory period.

The PPP CEC further asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to immediately announce the election dates.

In the meeting, concerns were expressed over the ban on development projects in Sindh while they were being inaugurated in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The PPP also expressed serious concerns over the country’s dire economic situation and termed elections as the key to solving all the underlying problems.

On this occasion, Bilawal announced that another meeting of PPPCEC will be held on Friday (today).

The PPP chairman also directed the party leaders to be ready for a public outreach campaign and appointed Chaudhry Manzoor as the focal person for the flood-affected population of Punjab.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Ministers Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Syed Khurshid Shah, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Farooq H. Naik, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Rana Farooq Saeed Khan, Syed Hasan Murtaza and others were present in the CEC meeting. attended. Faisal Karim Kundi, Shazia Murri and others.

However, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and Sardar Latif Khan Khosa did not attend.

On the recommendation of the Punjab leadership, Latif Khosa was also given a show cause notice for his statements against the party’s stand.

Later talking to the media, Shazia Murri said that the People’s Party wants elections to be held as soon as possible so that the country can come out of uncertainty but only ECP can give the date as the party emphasized in the last session. was

“We are saying delimitation should be done if necessary. We hope the Election Commission will conduct the elections soon,” he added, adding that PPP should be provided a level playing field.

He said that President Arif Alvi is apparently playing both sides of the wicket. He further said that his letter regarding the date of new elections is being reviewed. He said that the People’s Party believes in the law and the constitution and according to legal experts, the president cannot give the date of the elections.

Referring to President Arif Alvi’s letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, Marri said, “An attempt has been made to create confusion regarding the elections, which has proposed November 6 as the date of the elections and also the electoral body. has been asked to consult the High Court.”

He added that the President’s letter will also be discussed in the CEC meeting and the decisions taken there will be shared after the meeting. He said that the CEC will consider the situation after meeting the ECP today (Friday).

Marri said it does not matter that the party’s former ally Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) keeps blaming others. He said that PMLN can keep making accusations, it doesn’t matter.

Briefing the media, Faisal Karim Kundi said that the People’s Party has reservations about some of the steps taken by the caretaker government, especially the discriminatory treatment of Sindh’s development projects compared to Punjab and KP.
