Muzaffarabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) emerged victorious in the first phase of local body elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Sunday, winning 94 and 94 seats respectively. While Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won 85 seats out of 454 seats.
However, according to the results, independent candidates won 157 seats.
The Election Commission announced the official results for 454 out of 669 seats of district and union councils, municipal corporations, municipal committees and town committees till Monday evening.
According to the results, the All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference (MC) won a total of 22 seats, while the Jammu Kashmir People’s Party (JKPP) managed to win only one seat in the first phase of the elections.
The results of 53 out of 74 district council seats were announced, with PTI winning 17, followed by 16 independent candidates, while PPP won 9, Muslim League (N) won 7, Muslim Conference won 3 seats and JKPP one seat.
The results of 349 of the total 535 seats of the Union Council were announced and independent candidates won 131 seats, followed by PPP 75 seats, PTI 65, Muslim League-N 60, MC got 17 seats. And Tehreek-e-Labaik won one seat.
The PML-N won 12 of the 36 seats in the capital’s municipal corporation, followed by the PTI with eight, the PPP and independent candidates with seven, and the MC with two.
The results of 7 out of 10 municipal committees were announced, out of which the PPP won 3 seats, while PTI and Muslim League (N) managed to win two seats each. Results of nine out of 14 seats of four town committees were announced. PML-N won four seats, independent candidates three and PTI two.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan praised the peaceful conduct of the first phase of local body elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir Muzaffarabad Division and called it a victory of democracy.
Addressing the media in the metropolis on Monday, the prime minister said: “I appreciate the officials and workers of all political parties who have played an important role in advancing politics and democracy.”
Appreciating the political leadership for showing maturity, the Prime Minister said that the election process was peaceful despite the lack of security.
“It shows the high level of political consciousness of the people and political leadership on the one hand, and the quality administration, capacity and competence of the state of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on the other hand,” he said.
While congratulating the successful candidates of his ruling party, the Prime Minister said that I congratulate the brave workers of Tehreek-e-Insaf for running a successful campaign during the local body elections.
Referring to his party’s victory in the polls, he asserted: “Now it has been proved that his party is strengthened by its performance in Muzaffarabad.”
He hoped that his ruling party would show its performance in the second and third phase of the elections in Poonch and Mirpur divisions.
He said that Muslim League (N) President Shah Ghulam Qadir, former Prime Minister Raja Mohammad Farooq Haider, opposition leader Chaudhry Latif Akbar, People’s Party Assembly Member Mian Abdul Waheed, Syed Bazal Ali Naqvi and Sardar Javed Ayub faced defeat. . Constituencies concerned
He said that the defeat of an important leader of the opposition in the elections is a sign of the growing popularity of his ruling party and the confidence of the people in the leadership of the party. The Prime Minister said that he will fulfill the expectations of the people of Azad Kashmir.
He said that for 31 years the people of Azad Kashmir were deprived of their fundamental rights by the previous rulers. He said that “they tried to blackmail me on local body elections too but I did not compromise on the rights of the people”.
The Prime Minister said that he was proud of the good performance and expectations of the civil administration and police of Azad Kashmir. The Prime Minister also appreciated the efforts of the Election Commission and the role of the Pakistan Army in the local body elections.
