KARACHI: PTI has challenged the victory of Abdul Hakeem Baloch of People’s Party in the NA-237 by-election in the Sindh High Court (SHC).

The petition was filed by PTI leader Ali Zaidi through his lawyer Dr Shahab Imam and named the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the Sindh government and the winning candidate Baloch as respondents.

In its petition, the PTI has claimed that the by-elections were rigged at the “worst” level, accusing PPP workers of casting fake votes. He also told the court that he had complained to the ECP about rigging.

The party has requested the court to investigate the rigging claims.

On Sunday, by-elections were held on eight seats of the National Assembly and three seats of the Punjab Assembly. PTI Chairman Imran Khan was contesting elections from seven out of eight constituencies of the National Assembly.

One of these constituencies was NA 237 Miller II where the PTI chief was defeated.

Abdul Hakeem Baloch of People’s Party won from this constituency with 32 thousand 567 votes.

With about 10,000 votes less than Baloch, Khan bagged 22,493 votes in the constituency which was claimed by PTI in the 2018 general elections.
