PTI defeated JUI-F in Peshawar by-elections.

PESHAWAR: Following the arrest of its Chairman Imran Khan last week, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has won the Peshawar local government by-elections by winning the seats of Chairman Tehsil Council Mathura, Havelian and Abbottabad.

According to the provisional aggregate results from all 155 polling stations in Mathura, PTI’s Inamullah secured 20,333 votes, JEE News reported. This seat fell vacant after the death of JUI(F) Tehsil Chairman Faridullah.

Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) however failed in the said constituencies. Its candidate Rafiullah could not win the chairmanship of Tehsil Council Mathura and came second with 13,564 votes.

Among the other candidates, Iftikhar Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami I got 9,546 votes, Aziz Ghaffar of ANP got 2,721 votes, Ali Abbas of People’s Party got 5,377 votes and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML). N) K Fazlullah got 3 thousand 351 votes. Vote

About 55,607 people cast their votes, with a turnout of 26 percent.

According to reports, the result of Haveliyan Tehsil Council was delayed after a scuffle. But later according to the results of 134 polling stations of Havelian, the independent candidate Uzair Sher Khan won with 21 thousand 464 votes. Meanwhile, PTI’s Iftikhar Khan got 18 thousand 521 votes and Muslim League-N’s Talha Asif got 14 thousand 892 votes.

Extraordinary security arrangements were made for the by-elections in two tehsil councils. Senior police officials said that heavy police presence was deployed at the polling stations and in both the constituencies to ensure peaceful polling. City Police Chief Ashfaq Anwar and other officials visited the polling stations and reviewed the polling security arrangements.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had set up 155 polling stations with 496 polling booths for 218,630 voters in Mathura. Out of these polling stations, 84 have been declared as highly sensitive and 57 as sensitive.

Another 134 polling stations with 392 polling booths for 165,800 voters were constructed in Tehsil Council Haveliyan. Out of these 40 polling stations were declared as highly sensitive and 25 as sensitive. Major candidates in Havelian included independent candidate Uzair Sher Khan, PTI’s Iftikhar Khan and Muslim League-N’s Talha Asif.

The ECP had imposed a ban on any rally or inauguration of a project by a public office holder in any such area terming the election process as a violation of the code of conduct.

PTI leader Asad Umar also celebrated his party’s success in the by-elections.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote: “The best thing about the victory in yesterday’s Mathura tehsil election is that the PTI candidate is an ordinary worker of Inam Party and [ Insaf Students Federation] trained by the ISF.The ideology succeeded against the spenders of crores.
