Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MLAs resigned en masse from their seats in the National Assembly following a “foreign-aided regime change”.

Among the resignations of 123 PTI MNAs, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf accepted 11 resignations and sent them to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The ECP then de-notified these members and announced by-elections on the vacant seats.

Later, PTI MNA Shakur Shad, elected from NA-246 Karachi, approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) claiming that he had not resigned from the seat. The party suspended his membership for going against the party line.

After which the court suspended the ECP notification de-notifying the PTI MNAs.

Now the PTI MNAs, whose resignations were accepted, have approached the IHC.

The petition, filed on Wednesday, said the resignations were purely a political move and could not be treated as resignations in the eyes of law.
