ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf on Sunday decided to go to the Supreme Court immediately in the light of Alvi’s message on his social media account on the issue of President’s signature on the draft amendments to the Official Secrets Act and the Army Act.
“We will take the matter before the Supreme Court and request the Chief Justice to ascertain responsibility and hold him accountable by investigating every aspect of it,” the party said in reaction to the development.
The PTI spokesperson thanked the President for taking a stand above fear and concern for the constitution and law, the fundamental rights of citizens and the survival and security of democracy and Parliament. He fully supported the President’s stand at the national and judicial levels and noted his stand on the process of ratification of the most important legal drafts as requiring extraordinary and serious steps in all respects.
“The president through his tweet has pointed out the deep embedded disease in the state and government structure. In the last 16 months, the practice of deviating from the constitution, violating the law, fleeing from democracy and subordinating the state to personalities has strengthened in Pakistan.
He said that the entire state machinery, including the Parliament and the Election Commission, was removed from the constitution and left at the behest of unseen forces.
He alleged that “by completely canceling the implementation of the most important parts of the Constitution, the media and the courts have been trapped by unseen forces and the country has been kept in the grip of the law of the jungle”.
The spokesperson pointed out that the presence of “illegal caretaker governments” in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the denial of voting rights to 170 million Pakistanis in the two provinces is also due to this thinking.
He also said that the swift arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan through a controversial court decision and the series of bare fascism against thousands of leaders and workers to crush the party is a part of this series.
He alleged that the amnesty given to the criminals through NRO-2 and the destruction of the accountability system through the amendment of the NAB Act are also signs of the same hands.
“The President is the symbol of the Federation, part of the Parliament and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Pakistan. To invalidate the decisions of the President without his consent or to prevent their implementation through conspiracy and secret tactics is shameful, unconstitutional and in every respect is unacceptable.
He reiterated PTI’s demand for a judicial commission for a high-level inquiry into the cipher sent by the then Pakistani ambassador to the US.
