The Punjab government on Monday set up a judicial commission to probe the alleged police violence against PTI workers, supporters and other citizens during their “peaceful” long march in Islamabad on May 25.
In this regard, a notification was also issued by the Cabinet Division. According to the notification, Justice (retd) Bilal will be the head of the commission.
Talking to the media today, Dogar said that he has requested Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to write a letter to the Ministry of Interior and demand a judicial inquiry into the police violence against the long marchers.
He said that ‘Police officials should appear before the JIT and tell on whose instructions action was taken against the peaceful protesters of PTI on March 25’.
Last month, the Punjab government announced a crackdown on those involved in violence against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf activists during their march to Islamabad.
Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had ordered to start arresting those involved in violence against PTI workers on May 25, 2022. On May 25, PTI workers and leaders were tortured and detained during the long march.
Punjab Interior Minister Hashim Dogar has said that the officers found guilty in the investigation will face the law. He further said that violence against PTI workers on May 25 is unprecedented in the history of Pakistan.
