NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to use the winter in Ukraine as a weapon of war.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a NATO foreign ministers’ summit, Stoltenberg says members of the defense alliance have provided generators and spare parts to help restore Ukraine’s damaged energy infrastructure.
The Russian military has been targeting Ukraine’s power grid with airstrikes for weeks, leaving millions of people either without power or facing the prospect of cold winters without power.
Stoltenberg says we must be prepared for more refugees to enter the rest of Europe as a result of Russia’s “deliberate attack on critical services”.
