KARACHI: Karachi Kings’ Australian cricketer Ben Cutting has described the quality of cricket in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as “second to none”.
The 36-year-old was drafted by Karachi Kings for PSL 8. He has previously played for Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators and this will be his fourth stint in the league.
His wife Erin Holland is also among the league’s presenters.
When asked what brought him and his wife back to Pakistan again and again, the Australian cricketer said it was the people and culture of Pakistan.
“We love coming here. This is my fifth visit to Pakistan. I think it’s Erin’s fifth or sixth as well. So, we look forward to it every year. Coming back to the PSL and the country Pakistan and the hospitality, the cricket. The quality is very good.
“I’m really looking forward to being back in front of a full house, wherever we play, whether it’s Karachi, Multan, now Lahore, Islamabad. It’s rolling out in front of the home crowd again,” added the Australian cricketer. Could be very interesting.
Talking about the quality of cricket in the PSL, Ben Cutting said that the strength of the competition makes this league different from other leagues.
“A lot of people who haven’t been here and played the PSL always ask me how it is and the standard of cricket is second to none. You know every team has three or four guys who are 140/145. I have great spinners and all the batsmen can knock it out of the park. So, as a bowler it is always difficult as you know how to handle the caliber of your batsmen. “
Talking about the strength of Karachi Kings, he said that the arrival of James Vince in the squad this year has given the Kings a lot of strength and Sharjeel can knock it out of the park.
“You have to take what happened last season with a grain of salt for every team because the squads are different, and the conditions are different. This year it’s a little cooler. So, we’re not going to look back, We are going to look forward. I would like to take part in the first two games and the tournament because what happened last year doesn’t matter,” he said.
The bowling all-rounder added that he is looking forward to bowling against Babar Azam in the tournament as he is always a terrific challenge and a very capable batsman.
“Obviously it’s a bit of a loss for Karachi, but yes, we fill that void very well,” he said when asked if the Kings would miss Babar Azam this year.
