LAHORE: The city administration of Lahore has been put on high alert to deal with a possible emergency as intermittent monsoon rains once again wreaked havoc in Punjab’s most populous city on Saturday.

The day broke in the provincial capital with cloudbursts across the city, inundating roads and low-lying areas, disrupting life.

In the provincial capital, rainwater flooded streets and roads.

The Punjab Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) said it fell the most, up to 201 mm, in Gulshan Ravi in Lahore.

Meanwhile, 195 mm of rain was recorded in Airport, 193 mm in Tajpura SDO office area and 190 mm in Nishtar Town.

Due to rain in the city, at least 70 feeders of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped due to which power supply was suspended to many areas.

LESCO spokesperson says that the restoration of power supply will be started soon.

Taking notice of the matter, Interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited different areas of Lahore and reviewed the situation after the rain.

He directed the city administration and WASA to use all available resources to drain the rain water from the roads immediately.

Naqvi also ordered the authorities to increase the number of water pumps installed in the city and be on the ground to address the problems faced by the citizens.

Further, he ordered to make every possible effort to keep the traffic flowing smoothly.

On Friday, the Meteorological Department said that monsoon currents are continuously entering the country from the Bay of Bengal.

A western trough is also affecting the upper parts of the country which may persist for the next few days.

It has also warned of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore and other upland areas of the country.
