Rajanpur: At least 5 people were killed and 20 seriously injured when a bus overturned in Fazilpur area of Rajanpur district of Punjab on Sunday morning.

The bus, with devotees of a Sufi saint on board, was returning to Jacobabad from Sakhi Sarwar when it overturned after the driver “fell asleep” and overturned, rescue officials said.

As soon as the accident was reported, the rescue teams reached the accident site and shifted the injured to the hospital.

The seriously injured were shifted to Rajanpur district hospital while others were shifted to Fazilpur local hospital.

A woman and two children are among the passengers who died in the accident.

Dr. Aslam, district in-charge of rescue services, said that the accident occurred due to loss of control due to the driver of the bus falling asleep.

The accident comes a few days after another bus accident in Gitidas area near Babusar Top, in which eight people were killed and several others injured.

The tourist bus plunged into a deep ravine while passing through a sharp bend in the hilly terrain and caught fire on Friday.

Earlier on July 16, six people were killed in a similar bus accident in Thilachi area of Diamar district.
