Russia launched a missile attack on Ukraine on Friday, hitting critical infrastructure across the country and knocking out electricity as people sought refuge in shelters, Ukrainian officials said.
Explosions were heard in the eastern city of Kharkiv and local officials said critical infrastructure had been damaged. In the Black Sea region of Odessa, local officials said critical infrastructure was also affected.
Regional authorities said parts of Poltava’s central city of Kharkiv and the capital Kyiv were left without power, and the northern Sumy region experienced blackouts.
