Samsung’s customer data stolen in breach

Global smartphone and electronics maker Samsung has admitted that it suffered a security breach last month that resulted in the theft and exposure of users’ personal information online.

However, the South Korean tech company assured users that the hack did not compromise their social security, credit card, or bank information.

“But in some cases, information such as name, contact and demographic information, date of birth, and product registration information may be affected,” Samsung said.

Samsung acknowledges that the impact of the information may be different for each user.

“In late July 2022, an unauthorized third party obtained information from some of Samsung’s US systems,” the company disclosed.

“On or around August 4, 2022, we determined through our ongoing investigation that some users’ personal information was compromised.”

The company said it took steps to secure the affected systems, but did not detail what those steps were.

“We have taken steps to secure the affected US systems. As part of our ongoing investigation, we have also engaged a leading outside cybersecurity firm and are coordinating with law enforcement agencies. are doing,” Samsung added.

“We are committed to protecting our customers’ information and take these matters seriously,” Samsung said.

According to Samsung, Samsung customers do not need to take any immediate action and their devices are not affected by the incident.

“You may continue to use our products and services as usual.”
