ISLAMABAD: Former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was objecting to new constituencies based on the 2023 census as the number of seats in Karachi was expected to increase.

The senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader’s remarks, in which he said holding the general elections for more than 90 days would make no difference.

He said that the Council of Common Interests (CCI), in which PPP leaders were also present, had unanimously approved the new census.

On August 17, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that elections cannot be held in three months after the notification of Census 2023 due to the need for new delimitations, as decided by the CCI.

The entire nation has agreed on this census. The new delimitation is a constitutional requirement,” Sanaullah said.

He explained that everyone had objected to the 2017 census, but since the elections were around the corner, a one-time “amendment” was made to hold the elections on that particular headcount.

He asserted that holding elections on the “2017 tainted census” would be unconstitutional. Therefore, delaying the elections for another 80 or 90 days would not be a problem, he added.

Contrary to the position of Muslim League (N), PPP Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman urged the ECP to formally announce the date of general elections as per Article 224 of the Constitution.

“Our constitution mandates the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold general elections within 90 days of the dissolution of the National Assembly, but there is no constitutional requirement for constituencies,” said Rehman, who elected the ECP. Demanded to announce the date. Constitutional responsibility.

Additionally, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani said that political parties that were part of the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition government – including the PPP – were aware that they had rigged the census results. After approval, new delimitation of constituencies will be done. Country.

Speaking to the media a day ago, the Senate Chairman said that if the political parties had objections to the new delimitations in the country, they should not have informed the results of the census after approval in the CCI.

‘No illegal case’
Sanaullah further claimed that no illegal case has been made against any leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and they have to make way according to the situation.

The former interior minister said that Azam Swati was produced in the court fifteen minutes after his arrest, while Shahbaz Gul was produced in the court a day after his arrest.

He claimed that these people have been arrested as per the law.

Sanaullah further claimed that if 100 First Information Reports are filed, not a single one is false.

He said that if a person takes bail in one case but not in another, he should be arrested.

He said that Shehryar Afridi was released on parole by the Islamabad High Court. The Home Ministry cannot release an accused on parole.
