Sania Mirza’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were knocked out of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) by Mumbai Indians, who have now reached the playoffs of the inaugural edition of the tournament.
The RBC franchise roped in Indian tennis star Sania as a mentor earlier this year.
Under the leadership of Smriti Mandhana, RCB lost their first five matches in the league stage, reducing their chances of qualifying for the next stage.
Out of eight matches, RCB won only two to finish second in the points table. They played their last match against Mumbai Indians and lost by four wickets.
Sania, their mentor, remains fully available to the players. In her meeting during the tournament, Sania encouraged the players to be mentally strong regardless of the results.
Sania Mirza spent quality time with the RCB girls, giving them advice about handling pressure, shutting down the outside noise, and made it clear that they can come to her anytime for help! We’re lucky to have you with us, @MirzaSania. 🙌#PlayBold #SheIsBold #WPL2023 pic.twitter.com/WJjDLLBa7T

“After my retirement, my next step is to help women athletes around the world and in India with their mental health and challenges that I have gone through in the last 20 years,” she said at a team meeting.
Delhi Capitals were the table toppers to qualify for the finals. Mumbai Indians and UP Warriors will face each other in the eliminator on March 24. The winning team will face Delhi in the final, which is scheduled for March 26.
During the tournament, RCB’s veteran fast bowler Elise Perry bowled the fastest in women’s cricket. She bowled the fastest in women’s cricket at 130.5 kmph.
The franchise took to Twitter to share the update with fans, praising one of the best all-rounders in women’s cricket.
