Schedule of Negotiations Between IMF and Pakistan Changed

Washington: Official sources in Washington say that the schedule of talks between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been changed, but the talks are continuing.

However, media reports claim that the talks, which started last week, have been postponed to the third week of November.

According to reports, talks will resume after Pakistan fulfills its promise to adjust the sales tax on petroleum products and other steps required under the loan agreement that was revived earlier this year.

But government sources, who spoke to JEE News, said talks were reset following the release of a World Bank report on Pakistan’s flood damage last month.

Assessment of loss, damage and needs calls for “better returns” based on poor-first principles, transparency, inclusion and climate resilience. Estimates estimate that total losses will exceed $14.9 billion, and total economic losses will reach approximately $15.2bn.

Rejecting claims that differences between Pakistan and the IMF have stalled the talks, sources pointed out that the Fund held talks between IMF Deputy Managing Director Antoinette Syah and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Washington last month. In the meeting, the policies of the government were appreciated.
